LIVING HOPE MISSION (MERZILUS-HAITI)

LIVING HOPE MISSION (MERZILUS-HAITI):  Wilbert and Meg Merzilus established the Living Hope Mission in 1993 to support rural, independent evangelical churches in the north of Haiti .  Wilbert and Meg have been creative in forming partnerships with other missionaries in Haiti to build a well-rounded ministry that addresses both the spiritual and physical needs of the pastors and lay leaders of numerous small congregations, which receive no outside support. Many of these rural pastors cannot feed their families without working extra jobs, which are scarce. The Hope Center in Cap-Hatien provides space for seminars and overnight groups. It serves as a training center for the education and spiritual support of Haitian pastors, as well as classes in job skills and agricultural methods.  Despite the political instability in 2004, the mission has continued to fulfill most of its ministry goals.

PCOG sent four members (including Paul Barker), in 2000 to join a team from Pennsylvania to spend ten days at the Hope Center . Short-term workers have come from churches all over the US to complete special projects in construction, teaching, and evangelism. A board of directors in the US runs LHM.
